The Lightwater Business Association

For over 30 years the Lightwater Business Association (LBA) has worked to improve the commercial centre of our village. The key themes of LBA activity are:

  • Organising village centre ‘social’ activity
  • Improving village centre security and safety
  • Improving village centre amenities and attractiveness
  • Promoting Lightwater village business
  • Village square social events

Our ‘social’ events continue to gain in popularity, the highlight of which is our December “Fayre in the Square”. With Christmas stalls, Father Christmas, free mulled wine tasting, barbecue, band, carol singers and more, it’s a feast of enjoyment for everyone.

Village centre security

Importantly, the LBA is involved in helping to remove incidents of crime, vandalism and disorder in our village centre.

We are delighted with the service from our local police officers, who provide us regular updates, which we are happy to see are widely circulated.

The addition of CCTV cameras in the village centre has been discussed by Surrey Heath Borough Council for a while now. Mike Godwin (Unique Car Sound and Security) represented the LBA at a ‘calling-in meeting’ of the Borough Council over the installation of CCTV in Lightwater. The LBA is highly supportive of the CCTV project, and were disappointed when the Council rejected the proposal. We continue to discuss this issue with the Police and our MP – Michael Gove.

The LBA has provided financial support for the village Safety Wardens.

Hanging baskets & flowers

Providing the hanging flower baskets and flower bed planting has been one of our ongoing activities over the years, and one that has been appreciated by residents and shoppers. More than once the flower beds have been replanted after being vandalised. Mike Duffy of Budgens deserves much credit in ensuring the flower beds in the square have increased in maturity and attractiveness.

Recent Pavement re-alignment

We were consulted over the recent pavement re-alignment, resurfacing, and building of the pedestrian crossing, which in our opinion improves the village’s appearance and pedestrian safety. We would have liked to see provision for extra parking – a real need – and will continue to make representations for this.

Promoting Lightwater

For a small business group we manage to achieve measurable success, and are recognised by Parish, Borough and County Councils for our activity. We have an excellent working relationship with our MP, Michael Gove, who is tremendously supportive.

We always need active members. Please offer your support to the village business life and join the Lightwater Business Association.
